Small Business Development Center releases fall training schedule

OTTAWA – The Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Starved Rock Country Alliance has released its fall training schedule for 2020. While most of the center’s education is being offered virtually, there are some in-person classes scheduled for October.

This fall’s class offerings include:

Building Credit: Learn how to find your score, how it gets measured, and some tips to building (and rebuilding) a strong credit score toward obtaining business financing.

How to Start your Business in Illinois: Interested in starting a business, but have questions? This Starting a Business in Illinois workshop will go over the basics of starting a business, legal structures, licenses and permits, financing, and more.

Grant Prep - GATA Pre-Award & NOFO Preparation Sessions: Important! When grants are released, we want you to be prepared. Grant Accountability and Transparency Act Pre-Award prep sessions will help you prepare to immediately take action on Notice of Funding Opportunities.

Let's Talk eCommerce: Whether expanding your retail operation or launching a new offering, eCommerce is opening many opportunities for businesses to thrive. The session will cover eCommerce as a whole and then do a deep dive in setting up an eCommerce store on the simplest of platforms.

Let’s Crowdfund! Raising funds while building raving fans!: Crowdfunding is a great way to get funding for a specific project. It takes energy and creativity, but it can bring in much-needed funding and attract a whole new audience of supporters. Receive guidance through common crowdfunding platforms and learn tips to have you on your way to fundraising success.

NEW - Protecting Confidential Information: How can you protect the data that your business accumulates? Information about employees, clients, financial data, and intellectual property all need to be protected, especially as eCommerce gets involved. The goal of this training is to heighten awareness of protocols that secure the basic protection of confidential information for your business.

Illinois Small Business Development Centers offer no-cost, confidential, one-on-one business advising to people with ideas, people with dreams and plans to open their own small businesses, and small business owners looking to grow or shift their business. The Starved Rock Country Alliance is a non-profit organization consists of local business owners, municipal leaders, and other stakeholders who desire to see the regional growth of local business and entrepreneurship.
